The Rooms

Cape Weligama’s suites and villas are dotted across the 12 acres of tropical gardens, providing privacy and solitude. The freestanding Suites cluster around private pools, while the larger Villas are divided into multiple suites, making them perfect for families or larger parties.

All the rooms are outfitted to five-star standard and come complete with butler service and they also all share a pair of swimming pools — the kid-friendly Cove, over in the Villa corner of the property, and the cliffside, crescent-shaped, adults-only Moon Pool.

The rooms are some of the most capacious around, with beds big enough for entire families and elegant, beach-inspired interiors, large terraces and lavish stone baths.

What’s to do

There are a myriad of activities and excursions on offer at Cape Weligama. Swim and snor-kelin the aquamarine bay beneath Cape Weligama. Explore neighbouring coves by kayak orlearn to surf on Weligama’s legendary curls. The Dive Centre, staffed byan experienced in-ternational team of professionals, offers a comprehensive range of PADI dive courses and other off shore activities including private sunset cruises, big game fishing, seasonal whale and dolphin-watching trips and banana boating.

Away from this idyllic coastline, explore Sri Lanka’s lush rural hinterland of sleepy villages, paddy fields, meandering lagoons and ancient temples by guided bicycle ride. Take a boat or kayak out on nearby Koggala Lake, its tranquil lagoon edged by fragrant cinnamon gar-dens and tropical wildlife.

Thirty minutes from the resort is the historic Galle Fort where cobbled streets encased incoral and granite walls reveal ochre washed colonnaded houses, colonial churches, and renowned jewellery boutiques.For adventures further afield, head to Yala and Udawalawe National Park where elephants, leopards and sloth bears canbe spotted.

Cape Weligama is located approximately 2.5 hours bycar from Bandaranaike International Airport via Southern Expressway.

Alternatively, chartered seaplane service is available from Colombo Airport as well as from the hill country.

Out for the evening

This is the place to while away the days and nights so you would probably want to make the most of the Cape Weligama experience by staying in but should you want to venture out, there are choices in either direction.

The Cape Club honours the deep roots of Ceylon’s renowned tea heritage with its daily dis-play of the famous Dilmah High Tea experience. At sunset the venue turns into the perfect place to enjoy your favourite cocktail with a tea infused twist while listening to relaxing lounge tunes.

Ocean Terrace is a dramatic wooden pavilion with sweeping views of the sea. Dishes draw influence from local, western and wider Asian cuisines, executed with both refinement and flair. As you’d expect, the seafood is especially good–go all out with just-caught crab and lobster.
