On the banks of Lake Koggala, near Galle

On the banks of Lake Koggala, nestled amongst tree-tops and fringed by lush paddy fields you will find Tri, Sri Lanka’s first truly contemporary and sustainable eco-luxury hotel. Here local culture and natural beauty are showcased in an awe-inspiring design with sustainability at its core.

Living walls, green roofs, solar-powered hot water, recycled wood and local materials unify accommodations and landscape. The eight villas, one family sized, three with private plunge pools, blend into the jungle-like landscape. Three small water tower rooms, each with excellent views, spiral up from the centre of the property. It is both cutting-edge in design as it is kind to the environment.

Delicious dining, yoga and Ayurveda treatments are some of the perks of staying at Tri; the kind of holiday stay that is kind to mind, body and soul.

The Rooms

Each room and villa boasts breathtaking views of the lake and jungle. With modern design, clear cut lines and minimalistic furnishing, Tri is a trend-setter in the style stakes.

The water tower in the middle of the property houses the three most cosiest and affordable rooms. While smaller in size, they are big when it comes to expansive 360 degree views.

The Lake Suite is a private villa on the edge of the lake with a spacious living area. The Lake Villas are stand alone dwellings with uninterrupted lake views, specially beautiful at dawn. The Lake Villa with pool takes it up a notch in the luxury scale with a private open-air plunge pool with breathtaking views.

The Tri Villa is the most spacious of the accommodation options and comes with a private plunge pool, two terraces and enough space for a third person.

The Family Villa is two seperate Lake Suites that share a plunge pool- an ideal arrangement for a family or friends travelling together.

What’s to do

This is the place to switch off and focus on you. The biggest drawcard here is of course yoga, taught by co-founder of Tri, Lara Drummond, whose clients include Gerard Butler and Sienna Miller. In the open-sided tree top shala above the bamboo grove Lara teaches Quantum Yoga, a style founded by herself, where the yoga is tailored to your dosha.

The spectacular infinity swimming pool with views over the lake, the glass-walled library packed with beautiful books and the onsite luxurious spa specialising in Ayurvedic treatments offer plenty of other ways to stimulate the mind and body.

See All

If after something a little more active then try kayaking around the lake, stilt fishing or even climbing a coconut tree (trickier than it looks).

If wanting the venture out of the grounds, the stunning beaches of the south coast are just 10 minutes away and all the colonial splendour of Galle Fort is another half an hour further. However, we do think a stay at Tri is best spent immersed in the inspiring and truly relaxing bubble created by the property.

If the benchmarks for true luxury is making the most stylish entrance, then Tri has it covered. The sea plane from Colombo lands on the bottle green lake’s surface twice-daily and a boat is quickly dispatched to deliver Tri residents to the private jetty.

Alternatively, the property can be reached via a leisurely 10 minute cruise from the coast road in the locally made dhoni boat.

If opting for the road option, Tri is an easy 1.5 hours on the highway from Colombo or 2 hours from the airport.

Food & Drink

Tri’s gourmet restaurant is a standout. Serving interesting twists on classic dishes from lake to table, and garden to plate, this is as organic and seasonal as dining gets.

The ancient practice of Ayurveda is supported through a nutritious menu packed with local fruits and vegetables, some designed to give you a natural power booster and others for energy.

Dinner is an ever-changing multi-course menu that takes guests on a gastronomic journey of local flavours. Expect refined and beautifully-plated food.

The bar offers a range of cocktails and snacks until late evening.

Private dining can be readily arranged in your villa, under the shade of the resort’s ancient banyan tree, at the top of the water tower with panoramic lake views, or by the edge of the lake.

The 21-metre pool aligned with two distant lake islands is a thing of beauty. With wide sunbathing terraces and breathtaking views it’s the kind of pool most can’t get enough of.

Tri is very much an adult’s wellness retreat. While older children over 12 are welcome, this is not for the little ones.
