All rooms are ocean facing, and have fantastic views. There are just ten rooms across three different categories; two Kumu Bedroom, four Oceanview Bedrooms and four Oceanview Suites.
Rooms are spacious with an open-plan layout and feature large canopied beds and a soft white colour palette.
Upgrade to a suite for a large living area and a terrace. Views are special, even from the shower. Suite 11 is our favourite for the corner aspect.
Don’t expect beach shacks and reggae music around here. Both Balapitiya town and the beach maintain a charming sleepy vibe. This is the kind of beach escape for being rather than doing.
Do bring a good book or two and spend some quality time between beachside and poolside. Late afternoon as the sun goes down the boulders on the beach provide a good vantage point to take in the views.
If needing a change of scenery head half an hour north to Bentota and enjoy an afternoon of meandering though mangroves on a boat trip on Bentota river. A trip to a cinnamon plantation and a temple are also options. Also in Bentota is Lunuganga, the stately estate of late Geoffrey Bawa, open for guided tours.
Twenty minutes south of Kumu you will find Hikkaduwa, the original beach party town of Sri Lanka’s south coast. Today, things are a little less wild but fun nevertheless. There are waves to catch, surf lessons to be had, sun loungers to settle on and enough juice bars to keep you satisfied for an afternoon.
